Welcome back to the High School Corner!

Down in the High School we’ve been showing our Christmas spirit in a number of ways. A small group of students was kind enough to get festive decorations for our classroom, including fairy lights, Christmas-themed pillows, a miniature Christmas tree (decorated with exactly 25 pictures of Harry Styles, several of our peer’s favorite musician), a nutcracker, Christmas scented candles, and more! While plugging in our Christmas lights daily puts us in a great mood, we’ve gone beyond simply sprucing up our classroom and are working to spread Christmas cheer in other ways as well.

On Friday, December 13th, for instance, we spent our morning organizing holiday donations at Casa de Esperanza, many of which came from our own SCM community. We were charged with placing the gifts into plastic bags belonging to each family. We recognized several of the children’s names from the time we’ve spent at Casa this semester, and there were plenty of others who we haven’t had the pleasure of meeting yet. Having the opportunity to give back to an organization that has had such a long-standing relationship with St. Catherine’s means a lot to us, especially during a time of giving and joy.

Finally, we look forward to volunteering at The Beacon this Friday, a non-profit organization located in downtown Houston which “serves the Houston homeless community through daily services, civil legal aid, counseling and mentoring, and access to housing.” We will prepare food for lunch. Service is an important aspect of our high school curriculum, and we hope to make this a Christmas-season tradition in our class.

Thank you for reading the HS Corner this past semester. It’s been fun updating you! Have a Merry Christmas; we will see you in 2020!
