Welcome back to the High School Corner!

This week, we wanted to highlight an aspect of the high school experience that many families asked about at the High School Open House last week: the college search. In the SCM High School, our students not only visit colleges and interact with representatives outside of school through fairs, emails with professors in areas of interest, and campus tours, but they also have the opportunity to spend their in-school lunchtime with college representatives visiting SCM. Being able to host the representatives at our own school gives them an idea of what our program is like and the chance to get to know each student, and allows us to ask them any questions we might have.

Fortunately, Mrs. Lewis, our college counselor, has organized SCM visits with many universities this year. Up to this point, we’ve met with representatives from Willamette University, Nottingham Trent University, Trinity University, the University of Houston Engineering Department, and Lycoming College and look forward to many more. Upcoming visits include:

  • Goucher College
  • Southwestern University
  • University of Alabama
  • St. Edward’s University
  • Juniata College
  • Spring Hill College

We are grateful for this part of our program! It makes the college search much more manageable and helps us truly connect with schools of interest. Stay tuned for a High School Corner entry on our senior students’ college search and admissions experience. It’s an exciting time!

Thank you for reading; we hope to see you back next week.
