Welcome back to the High School Corner!

HS Corner 10.21This week we are excited to give you a chance to see some excerpts from our time with Ray Torgerson, a Houston attorney who practices Native American law. We have been studying issues affecting Native Americans, past and present, through our Humanities and Current Events classes. Some topics we've discussed include: the McGirt v. Oklahoma case, the Dakota Access pipeline, and recent name changes of professional sports teams. In our look at Native peoples thus far, each of us chose historical and contemporary topics to research such as the Navajo justice system, substance abuse in Native communities, Iroquois influence on the Founding Fathers and Constitution, the Comanche and the Texas-Indian wars, as well as many other fascinating topics! However, even after all this research and discussion, we felt there were some blind spots in our knowledge that would be best filled by an expert. This is where our guest came in. Mr. Torgerson was able to answer some lingering questions we had on the subjects we had researched as well as some we had not touched on. We are so grateful for Mr. Torgerson’s visit! Check out this video to see some highlights of our time with him!

Thank you for reading (and watching)!
