AP Computer Science and Web Design

HS logoLast year, students were given the opportunity to take AP Computer Science, exploring both text-based and block-based coding languages and examining the impact technological advancements have had on society. This year, Web Design was the technologically-focused class on offer.

At the beginning of the year, everyone in the High School built online portfolios using Google Sites. After building our individual portfolios, those who were interested in diving deeper into web design were given the opportunity to do so. In Web Design, students have learned about HTML and CSS coding as well as learning how to build, structure, and format a website properly. Our final project involved building a website for a randomly generated client such as a lawyer, oceanographer, plumber, circus ringmaster, animal breeder, and soccer coach. For example, Sarah Lopez was tasked with creating a website for a soccer coach who wanted an educational blog that caters to senior citizens.

Technological literacy and skills are more important than ever, and in the St. Catherine’s High School students are given ample opportunity to familiarize ourselves with the inner workings of technology, computers, and coding languages that are an integral part of the modern world. We were also able to put our marketing and sales hats on to learn more about what is the purpose of designing the website and what motivates the target audience to engage with the client.

Thank you for reading!
