High School

Hello everyone!

The High School just finished our study of the Middle Ages, and we are moving on to the
Renaissance! To kickstart this unit, we visited the Printing Museum. The printing press, invented in the 15th century by Johannes Gutenberg, was one of the most influential innovations of the time period. We learned about the evolution of printing, viewed early printed works, and we even got to practice printing on a model of the original Gutenberg printing press!

Over the next few weeks, we will continue to learn about important events and inventions
throughout the Renaissance. We plan to focus on artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, and Michelangelo, as well as on the development of religion, politics, and science during this time period.

We were also excited to hear from Dr. Leo Costello, a professor of art history at Rice University, who spoke to us about how gravity and morality are present in Renaissance art. He discussed the key differences between art from the Renaissance and the Middle Ages and how this evolved over the time period.

Thank you!
