Biography

Teresa has a bachelor’s degree in Hispanic Studies from the University of Houston. After college, she taught Spanish at the Post Oak School for 14 years and at the University of Houston for 20 years before joining the St. Catherine’s faculty in 2013.

Originally from Morelia, Mexico, Teresa grew up attending Catholic schools with her five brothers and sisters. As an adolescent, she loved religious studies and remembers looking forward to retreats and opportunities to explore her relationship with God. She continues to enjoy sharing her native culture, language and spirituality with students of all ages.

Teresa moved to Houston with her family in 1985 and discovered Montessori a few years later. Immediately impressed with the maturity of Montessori students and their passion for work, Teresa knew she wanted to teach and raise her own children in a Montessori school. She believes St. Catherine’s is the ideal home for her because of the way the school combines her faith with a deep reverence for children as individuals.

Having served as a foster parent for eight years, Teresa is now blessed with three children of her own, all of whom attend St. Catherine’s. At home, she enjoys playing with her children and spending time with extended family. In the rare moments she has to sit down, she loves reading and starting knitting projects she hopes to someday complete.
