Dominican Charism
Our Dominican foundresses, Sr. Edna Ann Hebert, O.P. and Sr. Shirley Owens, O.P., envisioned the rich potential of combining Montessori with Catholic principles to serve the hearts and minds of students. From the beginning, Dominican charism has been at the heart of our educational mission.
The Dominican Order is a Roman Catholic religious order that consists of friars, sisters, nuns, and lay people. Founded in 1216 by St. Dominic de Guzmán, it is also known as the Order of Preachers, and is perhaps best known for its commitment to education and the pursuit of truth (veritas).
The four Dominican Pillars are prayer, study, community, and preaching.
