Biography

Laurie is excited to begin her first year as an Upper Elementary Assistant at St. Catherine’s Montessori and have her daughter experience Montessori education as a part of the Primary community.  Laurie holds a bachelor’s degree in Theatre from Lamar University. Laurie worked as a company member at The A.D. Players Theater for many years and then moved to New York City in 2011 to pursue a career in theatre.  There, she discovered a passion for working with young children at The Rodeph Sholom School.

After the birth of her daughter, the desire to raise a New Yorker into a Texan with the comforts of family close by beckoned the Arriagas back home. Hurricane Harvey welcomed them back as Laurie took on a new role as a Lead 3s Early Childhood Teacher for The Bertha Alyce School, part of The Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center, and proceeded to set up a classroom in the JCC tennis center in the wake of the disaster.

In February of 2018, Laurie began working on her Texas Teacher Certification through Inspire Texas.  As part of her observation hours, she observed at St. Catherine’s Montessori and was amazed by the practical life lessons incorporated throughout the day, the beauty of the environment, and the level of cooperation and respect among the students. She welcomes this opportunity to learn more about Maria Montessori’s educational philosophy.

In her free time, Laurie enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, family, and reconnecting with Houston friends.
