Kathy Hijazi

Kathy Hijazi is a native Texan. After spending her adolescent and college years in Nebraska she returned to Houston in 1978.  Her studies led her to a research career in molecular genetics that spanned 18 years from her start at Baylor College of Medicine to MD Anderson. She discovered Montessori after the birth of her first son and eventually left genetic research to pursue this new passion.  She taught adolescents at The Post Oak School for 6 years before finding her true home at St Catherine’s Montessori in 2001. Her eldest son, Fred, was one of the first 9th year students and Zach followed in his footsteps 5 years later.  Kathy is passionate about Montessori and adolescents. During her time at SCM she was instrumental in founding both the capstone 9th year in the AC and in starting the High School. After her retirement in 2019 she took a few months of R&R and then heard the call of the adolescent again and currently volunteer tutors at two high need middle schools in HISD.  In her free time she enjoys gardening, painting and traveling.
