Biography

Amy earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Southwestern University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude. In 2015 she completed a master’s degree in English and American Literature at the University of Houston.

Originally from Arlington, Texas, Amy has long been fascinated with writing and storytelling. As an undergraduate, she studied the teaching of writing and became a consultant at Southwestern’s Debby Ellis Writing Center. During and after college, she worked as a newspaper reporter at the Williamson County Sun, covering education, crime, business and any other interesting leads that came along. After moving to Houston, she handled a variety of marketing and communications roles for a 30-year-old family-owned corporation transitioning through an acquisition and starting anew. Amy continues to enjoy writing as a way of connecting with others, exploring new ideas, and understanding what it means to be human.

Amy initially encountered Montessori as an education reporter, and she and her husband couldn’t wait to begin Infant-Parent classes when their daughter was born. Inspired by Montessori’s respectful and generous approach to raising children, they’ve never looked back. 

A longtime dancer and former dance teacher, Amy continues to study and perform ballet. In her downtime, she enjoys reading, gardening, and living room dance parties.
