High School

Philosophy with Mr. LopezIn the High School, we like to invite experts in the topics we are studying to give guest lectures and classes. For example, over the past few weeks we have welcomed Mr. David Lopez, a current high school parent, to share his knowledge of  philosophy. Mr. Lopez is a deep studier of philosophy and how it applies to freedom as a human idea, which is what we have been studying this semester in Humanities. Because we have been looking at the political and moral sides of civil liberties, it was only fitting that we invite Mr. Lopez to help us tap into the philosophical sides of our brain. In class with him, we have been looking into the history of philosophy and how it applies to our nation's founding. Not only are we asking questions, but we are also being asked questions that we don’t know how to easily answer, such as: What defines right and wrong?  How does religion play a part in philosophy? Is America a Christian nation?
Creative Expressions with Ms. Wight

This year in Creative Expressions, we are working with Ms. Wendy Wight, a local artist and former St. Catherine’s parent. Ms. Wight has been working with us on grasping our inner creativity and harnessing it in the form of paintings and drawings. She is helping us strive for free-spirited and spontaneous art, rather than perfection. Each week she encourages us to simply “just start!” on whatever project we are working on, and to not think too deeply about how we want something to look. This kind of thinking is beneficial to us as adolescents as we learn that there is no fixed definition of right or wrong art.

We are so grateful to have these guests join us, and we are excited to spend more time with them!
