Welcome back to the High School Corner!

During the last few weeks in Literature Seminar, we have been reading an array of books by authors from all over the world, beginning with Macbeth by the famous William Shakespeare, then moving on to Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, and finally Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. Jane Eyre has been particularly exciting because it is one of the few books we’ve read this year that’s written by a woman and features a female protagonist. The books we had read before were books about male heroes, so it’s a nice change of pace to have a different perspective.

Born in the United Kingdom in 1816, Charlotte Brontëwas eldest of three sisters. Her mother passed away in 1821, leaving her strict father to take care of the children. In 1835, she became a teacher, and published her most famous work, Jane Eyre, in 1847.

Last week we had our first seminar on Jane Eyre. Our discussion was exciting due to the multitude of opinions and interpretations of certain parts of the book. We helped each other better understand the book and connect aspects of the text to the real world. We look forward to reading the next section of the book and continuing along the journey of Jane’s life.

Thank you for reading, and we hope to see you back next week!
