Welcome back to the High School Corner!

We are very excited to say that the High School will be performing the 30-minute stage version of Shakespeare’s Macbeth this semester. As part of our study of world literature in Literature Seminar class, we read the full play and spent four weeks analyzing the characters, themes, and messages that make up this complex story.

Literature Seminar is a class held weekly in which we come together as a group to discuss a piece of writing (typically books) that we had been assigned to read. Each student brings at least one interpretive question with references to the text to discuss with the group. These questions lead us to think about the characters’ actions and whether they are making the right decisions, and the role they play in the big scheme of things. Different students have different perspectives, and this makes the discussions deep and enlightening.

Our work with Macbeth has gone beyond Literature Seminar class. The students who are taking AP English this semester wrote essays analyzing rhetorical strategies in scenes of their choice, and all members of the High School are now performing Macbeth in Creative Expressions!

Putting on the play not only means learning the lines, but also designing the set and making this play our own. Reading and having seminar discussions on Macbeth has further enriched our acting as it helped us better understand the characters and their motives. It has been a really exciting experience so far, and we look forward to performing it for the community. Stay tuned for details!

Thank you for reading, and we hope to see you back next week!
