AMI Recognition

St. Catherine’s holds the highest level of recognition granted by AMI for all of our program levels.

Dr. Montessori founded the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) in 1929 to preserve her educational principles. As the steward of
Montessori’s work, AMI trains teachers and accredits school programs based on their adherence to pedagogical standards. Every three years, St. Catherine’s has in-depth site visit from AMI consultants to assess the quality and authenticity of our programs. As an AMI Member school, we meet rigorous standards including:
  • An AMI-trained teacher leading each class.
  • A full set of AMI-authorized materials in each class.
  • Classes with a balanced division of ages and an appropriate number of students.
  • Classes that meet five days a week and include substantial uninterrupted work periods each day.
As you explore Montessori education for your child, it is important to understand that the term “Montessori” is not trademarked and can therefore be used by anyone. Affiliation with a recognized organization like AMI is critical to ensuring an authentic Montessori experience.
St. Catherine’s is also accredited by the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops Education Department, and we are associated with Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.
We also maintain membership in the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA); North American Montessori Teachers Association (NAMTA); Montessori Administrators Association (MAA); Elementary Alumni Association (EAA); National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS); Houston Area Independent Schools (HAIS); and Independent School Management (ISM).
