WHAT'S NEXT FOR YOU?

This summer, I will be working as a stage management intern for Des Moines Metro Opera, which produces four operas in repertory per summer season. In August, I will move to Philadelphia for a year-long production management apprenticeship at Walnut Street Theatre, the oldest operating theatre company in the country!

HOW DID SCM HIGH SCHOOL PREPARE YOU FOR YOUR NEXT STEPS?

SCM High School laid a solid foundation for my future endeavors by instilling in me a strong sense of identity. As I embarked on my college journey, uncertain of my academic and career path, I found solace in the clarity I gained at SCM about the kind of person I aimed to be as a student, roommate, daughter, and friend. This self-awareness, coupled with the academic readiness SCM provided, helped me navigate the challenges of university life with confidence. At Rice, I made a home for myself, satisfied my curiosity, and worked hard. The preparedness that SCM gave me—diligence, confidence, adaptability, and knowledge—allowed me to feel a true sense of belonging in university. I felt confident expressing myself in class, addressing professors, challenging status quos, and handling projects without needing much direction. I knew my place and my worth! SCM will forever hold a special place in my heart, and four years after graduating from St. Catherine's, I would not change a thing about my high school experience.

WHAT WORDS OF WISDOM WOULD YOU LIKE TO PASS ON TO OUR CURRENT HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS?

As you approach your high school graduation, do not hold yourself to what you think you want to do with your life. Be open to all sorts of twists and turns, because you will surprise yourself time and time again! Maybe even try a new hobby or two—I ended up briefly joining Rice's women's rugby team, traveling to Cuba, and getting weirdly into opera all because I said "yes" to as many things as possible. You never know what you will fall in love with!
