St. Catherine's Montessori Reading Center

Sr. Edna Ann Hebert, O.P., is the director of our outreach program, the St. Catherine's Montessori Reading Center. This non-profit, donation funded center provides individualized reading instruction to children with reading challenges who attend both public and private schools. Throughout her 46+ years as an instructor, Sr. Edna Ann has been widely respected by the educational community for her success in teachingSt. Catherine's Montessori Reading Center children to read. Her groundbreaking method of instruction (including copyrighted materials) is currently used in several school systems, including the Houston Independent School District.

Since the Reading Center opened in August of 2000, Sr. Edna Ann has taught children from a variety of schools and organizations including Casa de Esperanza de Los Niños, Houston Independent School District, St. Mark's Episcopal School, Pooh Corner, and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School. Her achievement is remarkable in that every one of her students has experienced success in reading. As of 2007, the Center has served more than 160 students, including at-risk children.

"Sister Edna Ann's extension of the Reading Center's services to the school-aged
children of Casa de Esperanza de Los Niños has opened a whole world of experience
in reading for children who have been extremely affected by abuse and neglect."
