Martha Zimmerman

Martha received her BA from Rice University with a double major of anthropology and art history.  She received her Master of Education from the University of Houston in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on secondary mathematics. Martha’s American Montessori Society (AMS) diplomas are at the Primary, Lower Elementary and Upper Elementary levels.

Martha has been teaching in Montessori schools since 1991 in London, Dallas and Houston (St. Stephen’s Episcopal). She has been a Trainer with the Dallas Montessori Teacher Training Program (AMS) since 2000.

In her spare time Martha enjoys reading and gardening.  She and her husband have two grown daughters – one is an AMI primary teacher in London and the other is doing an internship at Greer Gulch Farm Center in California.

Martha comments about Montessori – “The cornerstone for me is faith; our faith in the child, and in God, and the child’s faith in us to provide the tools needed to reach his or her full potential.  Also, the respect, for self, for others, for the environment, is key.  Finally there is the importance of educating for peace.”
