Katherine Zimmerman

Katherine is from Minnesota where she attended Northwestern University on a sports scholarship for Division I soccer. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in the School of Education’s program of Psychological Services. She later attended the Association Montessori International’s training center in St. Paul, Minnesota for her AMI certification. Concurrently, she received her Masters of Education from Loyola College in Maryland.

Katherine taught for three years at a small private Montessori school in Edina, Minnesota. From there she lived in San Jose, Costa Rica and Lima, Peru where she worked with junior and high school students at the Roosevelt International School. She was overseas to introduce a national youth group program called Wyldlife and Young Life.

In her spare time Katherine enjoys being a spectator and participant in most any sports activity. In particular, she runs, does yoga and spins(bicycling). She also enjoys art, photography, cooking, painting and reading.

Katherine’s comments about Montessori – “I like the process. I am fascinated as to how it is impossible to see the growth in one minute, in one hour, in one day, but if there is consistency – and the children are guided correctly – they will become wise. That is to say, the children are given a chance to become self-directed, independent, thoughtful, peaceful children. I believe this holistic opportunity in the Montessori philosophy allows for true leadership and positive thinking to be reaped in the individual’s character, a positive investment for generations to come.”
