Annual Fund

Bringing Wisdom to Light
St. Catherine's Montessori School Annual Fund
2007-2008

One of the most important ways support to this special school comes from the contributions made to the Annual Fund. The participation and support from families, grandparents, alumni, faculty/staff and friends helps continue the legacy of excellence, leadership and character development critical to the education of its students.

What is the Annual Fund?
The Annual Fund was established in 1998 as a yearly fundraising appeal designed to support St. Catherine’s Montessori operating budget. In order to balance the budget each year, all constituents - current parents, alumni, former parents, grandparents, and friends of St. Catherine’s - are solicited for contributions to the Annual Fund.

Why not just raise tuition to cover the amount funded through annual gifts?
St. Catherine’s Montessori values diversity; if tuition was increased to cover the actual cost of all programs, many families could not afford to send their children here. And remember, contributions to the Annual Fund are tax-deductible—increased tuition is not!

Why is the Annual Fund needed to balance the budget?
The Annual Fund is designed to help bridge the gap between operating expenses and income from tuition. The support of parents, alumni and friends, as well as corporations, has enabled St. Catherine’s to start new programs. These programs would not have been possible within the school budget. With your Annual Fund support, we hope to continue meeting the intellectual, physical, social and spiritual needs of those who attend St. Catherine’s Montessori.

Why is 100% parent participation important?
Through participation in school events, volunteerism, and commitment to the Annual Fund, our school community demonstrates to its students and faculty the high value it places on a St. Catherine’s education. Above and beyond the obvious economic benefit to St. Catherine’s Montessori, full participation is an important criterion that foundations and charitable organizations use when allocating donations.

What is the difference between the Annual Fund and the Capital Campaign?
Capital campaigns are conducted periodically to provide significant funds for growth such as the capital campaign to fund our new building. Contributions are generally pledged over 3-5 years. However, the Annual Fund is designed to offset annual expenses and contributions are typically paid in full within the school year. The Annual fund helps us live. Capital funds help us grow.

May we make a contribution other than cash?
Yes. Gifts may be made in the form of Securities, IRA’s, Irrevocable trusts, Insurance, Cash and Other Valuables. Please contact the Office of Development with questions about the best form of gift for your family.

My company offers a Matching Gifts Program. Would the School be interested in this program?
Yes! Matching gift programs are a great and easy way to increase your gift. Please check the matching gift box on the remittance envelope and include the appropriate form if your employer offers matching gifts.

How much should I give?
Of course, this is a personal decision and only you can decide. Some families will be able to give more and some will give less. As a supporter of St. Catherine’s Montessori School, we hope you will make the Annual Fund a priority and give to the maximum extent that you are able.

Your gift does make a difference!
